Caroline and Ryan. Where to begin. They were an absolute JOY to work with over our 10 months together. The first time we met over coffee, I instantly knew they were my people — it’s really one of the best feelings when you meet potential new clients and instantly connect. I’m so glad they felt the same! When we met, they didn’t have their venue booked yet, but SSS Ranch was their dream venue, but all of the wedding dates for the rest of the year were full! On a whim, Caroline gave Derek one last call, and October 28th had opened up so they snagged it right up!
They are both from the East Coast, and met in Washington DC after college through mutual friends. We wanted to fuse some of the East Coast elegance with the the California Wine Country vibe — so we ended with a rustic elegance with organically layered textures and natural color tones, and a whole lot of candles to bring the romance. We wanted the day to feel ethereal and magical – and I think we totally nailed it!
Caroline actually ordered a custom wedding dress, and when it arrived it was unfortunately completely crafted wrong — so they scrapped that dress and she found a gorgeous one at BHLDN, which ended up being a blessing in disguise. With many weddings, there is usually one “thing” that happens — maybe its that the ring box was forgotten in a hotel room by a groomsman, or the groom forgot his lucky socks, or Aunt Pam and her kids ended up being a last minute addition. This “thing” that happens causes a bit of unnecessary stress, and for Caroline and Ryan – we were like, okay – your “thing” is the dress, and thats fixed, we’re going to have smooth sailing from here on out. Everything was lined up, organized, totally ready to go for them in early October. Then I wake up on Monday, October 9th to Napa and Sonoma counties on fire, with SSS Ranch right in the midst of the devastating Tubbs Fire. To make a long story short, we had a rollercoaster over the final weeks with back up venues and going back and forth on what we needed to book and change, if road closures would subside as time went on, and what Caroline and Ryan needed to tell their guests. We found out on Monday the week of their wedding, that SSS Ranch had the green light for us to bring their guests there and we were all set for Caroline and Ryan’s Thursday arrival to the venue.
I couldn’t imagine two better clients to have been on this rollercoaster with. They were as calm as possible, assessed situations thoughtfully, and kept positive attitudes about their venue, and focused on getting married to each other as the most important thing. I couldn’t help but burst into tears when I saw Caroline in her wedding dress. Their day was so sweet, and I think knowing the hoops that had been jumped through to get there, just made their day all the sweeter. Every guest was grateful the property had been saved, and Caroline and Ryan were just ecstatic to have the wedding weekend they had been dreaming about. I was so deeply moved by the mountains that had been moved by the SSS Ranch staff to fight the fire all night to save SSS Ranch from the Tubbs Fire, and am so overjoyed that more couples will be able to experience all the love this venue has to offer.
Couldn’t be happier for C+R – Congrats you two!
