Margot and Blake’s wedding will always hold a special place in my heart. Margot and Blake eloped a few years ago in Balboa Park in San Diego (with their adorable pup, Poppy) before they were deployed and then stationed overseas with their helicopter pilot jobs in the United Sates Navy. They had met a few years before that in Corpus Christi, TX when they were both training as Naval Pilots. They have been with each other through thick and thin, spending many days and nights apart with deployments or being stationed on separate ships, most recently, in Japan.
Since they had to elope due to deployment dates, they never had the wedding they originally were planning for – so this was the true celebration with all their loved ones with a vow renewal ceremony. The catch — Margot wanted this all to be a surprise for Blake!! I absolutely loved hearing Margot’s stories throughout the planning process as we began to get closer to the wedding about what Blake thought she was up to (it’s a little bit hard to hide spending money of wedding magnitude to your spouse!) – my favorite was that he thought she was planning a 4th of July party in Tahoe to celebrate their homecoming (after their Japan tour, they were going to be moving back to the US to Annapolis). Close…but not quite 🙂
Margot had purchased their tickets out to the Bay Area under the guise that they were going to be picking up their pup, Poppy, from her mom’s house and bring her back to their new home in Annapolis (which they also still did!) Just before they left, Margot gave Blake a custom book created by Peanut Press that told their story thus far, and on the last page had the date of their vow renewal ceremony – July 1, 2017 in San Francisco so that Blake was in on the secret and could prepare.
In keeping with Tank 18’s slightly industrial feel, we paired modern elements in the space — we carried shades of green throughout, mixed with green sequin for an added fun element, with modern copper elements, ferns and succulents, mixed with bright hot pink tones. It was one of my favorite designs! We went with a great celebratory feel and opted for food stations instead of a sit down meal – so we had table seating, as well as lots of standing cocktail room for guests as well – leading to a fun and more casual celebratory feel!
Enjoy the sweet photos and video below, I couldn’t be happier for these two souls to have the wedding they never had, and thank them endlessly for their selfless service to our country.
